Day 9 (6/23/34) continued (Steve)

Boy what a day. After I posted the picture of my coffee I got a Ring notification and decided to look. Well it was the SJPD. Apparently someone had tried to steal my neighbors motorcycle while on a stolen motorcycle. They were looking for camera footage

SJPD

Being I was at Coldfoot Camp and my system is computer based I told them they had to wait. I messaged my neighbor so he knew what was going on.

I then headed south. A big highlight was a Big Buck Moose in the road. He was majestic, luckily he wanted nothing to do with me.

Southbound Dalton was in pretty good shape yesterday. However as I ascended the Beaver Slide things got real squirmy. After making it through I remembered this from the last trip.

Then a quick stop at finger mountain and Yukon River for bio breaks and then the final slog home.

One of the construction sites decided to do some grading and I was lucky enough to get some fresh grade, which meant hoping to follow the graders tire tracks. Successful at that I was once again done with the Dalton. I decided that two times is enough for anyone and unless there is a guided tour to see the Aurora some day two times it will stay.

Bye bye

The final slog on the Elliot and Steese highways are paved with tons of broken pavement and pot holes. There is one Piloted construction zone though. After waiting for 15 minutes and learning about the flagger’s dry cabin it was time to move on.

After that it was clear sailing (or so I thought). There are sections of whoops and I was enjoying them until I felt a surge. Followed by a Christmas tree lighting up on the dash. I was hungry and tired and 45 minutes from Fairbanks, the bike was still running so I kept going.

Eventually in town I stopped at McDonald’s to eat and assess if the bike would go again. Well it did, and I went to the car wash (need to go again). And the to the hotel.

Car wash

After unpacking, showering and eating I went to look at the bike. The code it through was for the front ABS sensor. So I took it out and cleaned it up. Still throwing a code.

I looked at the wire and it was hing up and stretched out on the horn bracket. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Not the right place for that.

So apparently in the whoops when the suspension compressed it caught the wire.

I moved the wire where it was supposed to be and added some zip ties, but the bike is still throwing a code. im going to try to see if I can get in where it plugs in to see if I can seat it to help, but Im pretty sure it is going to need a new sensor. The fun parts are. 1. The BMW system doesn’t show a part for it but I think I found it and 2. I believe you need to take off a radiator to get to it. So, Im pretty sure Ill be going home with no ABS, no Traction control and more importantly NO CRUISE Control.

I mentioned my toe yesterday. It has now progressed to a constant ache and I can’t really walk on it. To make matters worse this is a compounded issue worse this is a compounded injury on this toe.

I will bet the boys will have better adventures stories than me.

  1. Two times on the Dalton is more than the rest of us mere mortals.

well done. In going, and in your decision making on not continuing North at that time.

For yourself and, inevitably the rest of the PBs you’re riding with.

I hope the foot feels better and you all enjoy the hell out of what’s left of your adventure.

    Envy reigns.
