So, they say don’t wrench the week before a trip. Hold my beer

As things go, my bike has had some challenges in preparation of this trip. M

There was the battery saga which had an OEM replacement be DOA. A Lithium shut down on me in the middle of ranch land and then finally a good battery.

Then there was the leaking valve cover which was finally sorted over the past weekend.

Today, some one who will remain nameless chided me because I didn’t lube my drive shaft splines. Well, he said it was a 5 minute job. *famous last words*

Everything was going well until the final drive wouldn’t release from the shaft. I could see there was some light rust (common on these bikes). I couldn’t get it to separate and was about to go HAM on it. Also, keep in mind it was 100 degrees out and the garage AC only does so much

I stopped myself and did a phone a friend (well friend of a friend ). My neighbor is friends with a tech at a BMW dealership and he just got off work.

He arrived and after listening to me. Grabbed some tools and held it and hit it just right and in a way I wouldn’t have.

This saved the day and it separated. He cleaned up the splines and greased them and reinstalled the shaft and I finished up from there.

Im not touching a wrench for the rest of the week. 😀

Final Drive rotated
Shaft out and being cleaned up
All buttoned up again.
