In the heartland, still a solid 12 hours from old Virginia, I thought I’d poll the group and try to document the wildlife we encountered during our trip.
We saw about a dozen brown or black bears. One we had to dodge as it was running across the road to its sibling. Another sighting was a female and two cubs, jealously guarding the road shoulder. The rest were sighted along the highway’s tree line, well outta range.
We saw mountain goats playing in the road.
We saw a small herd of musk oxen, on the tundra just south of deadhorse.
We saw deer, bison, a wolverine, domestic goats and cows open ranged, rabbits, caribou, a suicidal magical yellow bird that vanished in a cloud of feathers, a bald eagle, moose and a plethora of exotic birds near Prudoe Bay.
What’d I miss? Do mosquitoes count?
Pix to follow as we go through our pix. Updates as we remember…
