Day 15 (6/29/24) Ft Nelson to Williams Lake (Steve)

I woke up at an unnatural time along with the others. The plan was breakfast at Tim Hortons. When it looked like people were ready. I just went to Tim Hortons. Im not a morning person so it may have looked Surly, but I was just meandering through the morning.

The only pic from today

After breakfast we set out. My plan was to split at the first gas stop, but I was having issues. First my gas tank was open and I didn’t secure my tank bag straps. Then upon moving I realized I never secured my helmet. 2 stops later and we were moving.

When it was time for their first gas, we said our good byes. I continued on until I needed gas. It was a longer than it should stop, but necessary to get a coffee in. As I headed out again, my cap was open. By the time I sorted this, I was in a sea of big slow trucks. As we got stuck going 5 mph up hill I looked back and saw the boys. I pulled up comms to say hi.

Being I was frustrated and in solo mode, I may have dispatched through the trucks in a non polite Canadian way. Eventually I got through and was taking a right and said goodbye again.

The rest of the day was uneventful except I was invisible to all the drivers passing the other way or entering from side streets.

I arrived at Prince George around 2. Gassed up and ate Quiznos (they are still in business?)

Then the slog to Williams lake. I had a bad case of the sleepies and made a few phone calls.

I arrived in Williams Lake for the reason there were very few rooms. The Rodeo is in town. Yee Haw.

Im fed, showered and am not setting an Alarm. I bet I wake up at some ridiculous hour 😀.

Tomorrow is a run for the border and then as far south as I can get. Hopefully to at least Portland so it will be another 1000 km day.

When I’m home and write a summary I will divulge my current feelings on day after day long days.

Addition: It is bittersweet to have separated from the others. On one hand, I am used to traveling solo and I can find my groove while cranking miles, starting, stopping, eating ,etc on only my needs. On the other, it’s nice to share experiences with others, have conversations and poke fun. Also, not to have to make decisions. Hope they have a safe trip back east.
