Day 9 (6/23/24) Morning Decisions (Steve)

I have been struggling with sleep for a bit now and running on empty at the end of the day. Dawson City was really bad. The boys gave me a single room at the house in Fairbanks and I felt fairly well in the morning.

We headed out to the Dalton and had a pretty good day conditions wise. It was mid 70’s with only a few muddy spots. A complete departure from my last trip.

Backing up a few days I hurt my foot by hitting a rock right on a spot that I have had an injury on for a year or so. Its been aching and hurting since. So that has been bothering me.

I had been joking for a few days that I was going to head to a Spa in lieu of the Haul road trip. I was serious but rooms were over $400 in Fairbanks.

As I was thinking about how I physically felt and how long of a day Monday would be in conjunction with my foot and I really want to take the plane tour in Denali, I checked again and some rooms were normal priced in Fairbanks on Expedia.

So I hemmed a bit then decided the best thing was listen to my body and turn south and give myself a rest day tomorrow.

I packed up with the boys and we headed to the Dalton from Wisemen. They turned Left, I turned right.

So here I am at Coldfoot Camp drinking coffee and will eat a breakfast bar. There is no rush as the Yukon Camp doesn’t open till 11, but I don’t actually need gas.

Back on the Dalton solo 😀

  1. The university doesn’t rent dormitory rooms anymore?
