A series of unfortunate events

I’m not even sure where to start… what a day! BLUF- we got to our destination safe and sound.

Yesterday I discovered a headlight bulb out so we started with a trip back a few miles into Fairbanks for fuel and auto parts. At some point we decided to plan to cook tonight so we needed ingredients and a shopping trip was necessary. With that, we got food, fuel and bike repair parts before getting underway about 0915.

It’s only 250 miles to wiseman… we will be there quick as a flash. Not so fast, an 8 mile construction zone slowed us down first, then several section freshly watered to a super slippery surface made things dicey. We kept on despite the obstacles.

I’m tired and can’t focus, so the high points –

Dangerous Dan lost the keys to his bike luggage.

Then he dropped it in the parking at the Yukon camp lunch stop.

Then some of the mud jammed his brake pedal and locked up his rear break.

Then after making repairs, I tipped my bike over and narrowly missed being shoved off into the ditch.

After getting a a hand righting the bike, I dropped my glasses and lost them for about 20 minutes before Dan found them in the grass by the roadside.

Then I managed to blow a headlight fuse installing the new bulb. Then an Alaska State Trooper stopped me to discuss the merits of always running headlights and carrying an expired insurance card.

Then we got to our destination and affected repairs, made dinner and managed to tell the story before giving into exhaustion.

Harv, looking for lights out
