Dan from Georgia Intro

I’m Dan from Georgia. Like the rest of this crew, I met this group as part of the SabMag group some time after I joined around 1999. Chances are it would have been in Tellico Plains, TN or at Burr Oak State Park in Ohio. I think I may be the only one here who actually started my street riding on a Harley. Granted, it was an Italian-made single cylinder 250, but it had the Harley name and paint job. Anyways, my father-in-law let me try his V65 Magna and I made the switch to Japanese, mostly Honda V4 bikes. First a Sabre and then around 2001, a VFR800.

I still have that VFR800 and a few other bikes. None were appropriate for this Alaska adventure, so I picked up a 2015 Vstrom 650. No offense to Vstrom lovers, but it is ugly and I’ve been making mods to it to make it uglier.

Since this picture, I’ve added a Rotopax gas can, a mesh seat cover, a tall Madstadt windscreen and Hippohands. Despite the collection of waterproof gloves my peers are bringing with, I may be the only one with dry hands on the trip. There’s a new set of Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires in the garage ready to be installed.

  1. Hippohands might be a tad warm. I got by with rain gloves over my Helds just fine. Take mosquito repellent. Enjoy
